“Be on the lookout,” a lawyer warns police and sheriff’s departments statewide, for a different kind of threat: the next Californians Aware audit of public information practices by law enforcement agencies. Circulated in late summer 2008, this alert from the Fullerton law firm of Jones & Mayer predicts that a certain season of caution is about to commence in which front counter people need to be trained to respect and accommodate the requests for information by walk-in strangers, since the “police blotter” and other information sought will probably be matters of public record anyway.
